Geneviève Asse was born in Vannes in 1923 and died in Paris in 2021.
She lived and worked all her life between Paris and Brittany, where she worked in her studio on Ile aux Moines.

A major figure in French painting, she is represented in French and international public and private collections. Geneviève Asse is not a member of any particular school, and has never been influenced by trends or fashions. She has practised painting, drawing and printmaking.

Painter and engraver. In 1998 the Museum of Art and History of Geneva organises an important exhibition of her engravings and books for her critical catalog of engravings, Geneviève Asse, l'oeuvre imprimé, 1942-1997, edited by Rainer Michael Mason.
Catherine Putman edited her engravings since 1999. Today, the gallery also exhibits drawings and paintings on paper of her.

"I like painting up to the eye's point, the same for drawing; that is to say up to the extreme, to the most critical level. When I engrave, I think I can justifiably reach this extreme critical point that attracts me."
